What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses hypnosis, a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, to help individuals make positive changes in their thoughts, behaviors, or emotions. It is a safe, natural process that allows access to the subconscious mind, where deep-rooted patterns and beliefs are stored.

Where do the sessions take place?

I have a therapy room at Sheffield Wellness Centre on Abbeydale Road. Alternatively, I offer online sessions and cann even see you in the comfort of your own home. We can discuss together which option would be best suited to you.

How does hypnosis feel?

People often describe hypnosis as a deep state of relaxation, similar to daydreaming. You will remain aware of your surroundings, and you won’t be unconscious. You will be in control and able to come out of the hypnotic state whenever you choose.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. Contrary to popular belief, you are always in control during hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or ethical beliefs. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, and you will be fully aware of what is happening the entire time.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of issues, including but not limited to:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Depression

  • Performance Enhancement

  • Fears and Phobias

  • Sleep disorders

  • Confidence and self-esteem issues

  • Imposter Syndrome

  • Motivation and goal setting

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, hypnotherapy is considered safe when conducted by a trained and certified professional. It is non-invasive and drug-free, making it a gentle alternative to more aggressive forms of treatment. It’s also important to note that hypnosis cannot make you do anything that goes against your values or beliefs.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Most people can enter a hypnotic state if they are willing and open to the process. However, the depth of hypnosis may vary depending on the individual. If you are highly resistant or anxious about hypnosis, it may take some time to fully relax into the process.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required depends on the issue being addressed and the individual. Some people may see significant improvement in just one session, while others may need several sessions to achieve their desired outcome. During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What should I expect during a hypnotherapy session?

A typical session begins with a discussion of your goals and concerns. Your hypnotherapist will then guide you into a relaxed state using various techniques, such as deep breathing or visualization. Once you’re in a hypnotic state, the therapist will work with your subconscious mind to address the issues you're seeking to resolve. The session typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes.

Can hypnotherapy cure medical conditions?

Hypnotherapy is not a cure for medical conditions, but it can be used as a complementary therapy to help manage symptoms, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. Always consult with your doctor before using hypnotherapy as a treatment for any medical condition.

How do I get started with hypnotherapy?

To get started, simply contact us to schedule an initial consultation. During this session, we’ll discuss your goals and how hypnotherapy can help you achieve them. From there, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

What’s the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is the state of deep relaxation and focused attention, while hypnotherapy refers to the therapeutic use of hypnosis to address specific issues. In hypnotherapy, the hypnotic state is used as a tool to facilitate positive change, such as breaking habits or managing anxiety.

Can I be hypnotized online?

Yes, hypnotherapy can be effectively done online via video conferencing platforms. As long as you are in a quiet, comfortable environment where you can relax without interruptions, online hypnotherapy sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions.

What if I don’t “wake up” from hypnosis?

This is a common concern, but it’s not something to worry about. You cannot get “stuck” in hypnosis. If the hypnotherapist were to stop guiding you, or if there were an interruption, you would naturally come out of the hypnotic state or drift into a normal sleep, from which you can easily wake up.

What should I do after a hypnotherapy session?

After a hypnotherapy session, it’s a good idea to take some time to relax and reflect on the experience. You may notice changes immediately, or it may take a few days or sessions for the effects to fully manifest. Keeping a journal can help you track progress and reflect on any shifts in thoughts or behaviors. I also record my hypnotherapy sessions and send them to you so that you can listen to them in between our sessions and can continue with the positive messages that they provide.
